Journalism or Collaboration?
At the same time we are listening to the howls of indignation that the US would attempt to get some good, and truthful, news out to the Iraqi public, we get a glaring reminder why this is necessary. News reports around the world trumpeted that insurgents had taken over the city of Ramadi and attacked many Iraqi and US bases in the area, overrunning and taking control of the city. Sadly, this is exactly the kind of info that gets most of the folks covering this war salivating. They have blinded themselves to any good happening and circle like buzzards waiting for the carcass to finally drop, so they can shout to the world how the imperialist Americans got taught a lesson. The problem is the insurgents didn't take over Ramadi, and their very brief posed set piece in a couple of blocks had to be closely coordinated with journalists to ensure that when they ran out and pointed their guns, the reporters got to see them before the Americans or Free Iraqis did, because they know hellfire seeks any clown dumb enough to stand and fight.Ramadi_gungeek
Al-Reuters is always dependable:
"They've taken control of all the main streets and other sections of Ramadi," a reporter for Reuters there said earlier. "I've seen about 400 armed men controlling streets, some of which were controlled by Americans before."
More like a dozen from the video I saw on TV and even they had that look like "Are you getting this?" to the collaborator journalist filming them. The sum total of this massive assault was one RPG fired at a US position.
Sounds like they actually pissed this Marine Captain off:
"Today I witnessed inaccurate reporting, use of unreliable sources, media using other media as sources, an active insurgent propaganda machine, and the pack journalism at its worse," Capt. Jeffrey Pool, a spokesman for the 2nd Marine Division, said in an e-mail to news organizations."
So again we have collaboration between media and the enemy, similar to when the AP had a stringer who just happened to be set up where a kidnapping and execution of election officials took place, or the many other instances where journalists accompany the enemy and film them under some unethical agreement. Yet this draws no complaints, heck this is usually just accepted and then used as propaganda against US and free Iraqi efforts to finish these clowns off. The willingness to serve as mouthpiece and enabler of the terrorists is sad and reinforces the very low and dropping opinion most people have of the media. They and Congress battle it out for the title of least trusted group in our country, kinda sad isn't it.
